Giba Gorge Park

Track

The BMX track at Giba Gorge was flattened and rebuilt as a combo track, comprising of both a BMX challenge class and supercross track. This allows for all our junior and beginner riders to still train & ride on a standard size BMX track. The track is built to UCI standards with the intention of being able to offer riders the abbility to train at a world class level.

Trails

The trails at Giba Gorge have tended to have a reputation for being tough. This may have been the case 8 years ago when we first started cutting trails, as we initially focused on opening old service roads and pathways, and many of these tended to be quite up and down rather then contour driven. Once these trails were opened we started focusing on my sustainable trails which also had the advantage of being contour driven. Over the years we have re-cut trails and added new trails and all the while taking the average rider into consideration.

What we have achieved now is a network of trails that traverse the valley in both directions with many link ups allowing a rider to flow from one trail into another. This allows you to create a different riding experience each time you hit the trails. If you ride all the marked trails without deviating you will clock up around 35km, but if you add in the many ‘link up’ trails you can extend this distance.

All the trails (apart from the Purple Route) offer a variety of technical aspects and you can expect, rocks, roots, drops & tight switch backs. In summer the trails are more tacky and grip well whilst in winter with minimal rain, they can become a bit loose in corners.

The Routes

  • The Purple Route is perfect for kids and first timers, and it is this trail where many a new biker starts out.

  • From here I would suggest the Green Route which allows for easier climbs and long flowing fun filled descents.

  • After this is the Blue Route, which is also the longest trail with the steepest climbs and tightest switchbacks, and is a really good training loop.

  • After this we have two advanced trails; The Downhill & the Enduro and these are short in distance but require advanced riding skills and are suited to bikes with more travel in their front shocks.
